Q: How far back can you reach into your past for a profile picture before it is considered unacceptable when people KNOW you don’t look like that anymore. And I’m not talking about the baby photo fb craze.
A: Dear Photo Freak (I hope you don’t mind I gave you a fun nickname),
I’m gonna have to assume you’re older, new to Facebook, and afraid to show the world what happened to you in the 30 years since high school. I’m sure some horrifying changes have made their way through your once sexxy body, and while you could hide behind a pic of yourself from the mid-80s, the people deserve to know the truth. You don’t want to be duped by your friends Facebook photos, only to meet up for coffee and find them significantly uglier. Be up front and you’ll get the disappointment out of the way right up top. As you said, people “KNOW” you don’t look good anymore, so run with that and let them support the downward trajectory of your looks. And hey, maybe you can use this low self-esteem kick you’re on to start taking better care of yourself…or invest in some real life Photoshop in the form of plastic surgery.
Love,
Lauren
